Electrical conductor
Conductivity is a narrow field at the top and the ranking barely moves: silver, copper, gold and aluminium, in that order, and nothing else is close among the metals. So the choice between them is almost never about conductivity — it is about price, weight, corrosion and what can be joined to what.
Aluminium against copper is the case worth understanding. Aluminium conducts about 60 per cent as well per unit volume and about twice as well per unit mass, which is why overhead transmission lines are aluminium and household wiring is copper: one is limited by what a pylon can hold up, the other by what will fit in a wall.

and it is deliberately a poor one — the silicon is added to raise resistivity, because current in the core is pure loss

not a good one — solder's conductivity is far below copper's, and a joint is designed to be short for that reason
